Pittsburgh

This weekend Andrew and I took our last baby free trip and went to Pittsburgh. We dropped Gus off to be boarded, get a bath, and get his nails trimmed for the last time before Baby Fisher gets here (he really wanted to look nice to meet his new brother). Then we drove to Pittsburgh and made our first trip to an IKEA, which made us feel old because we were so excited about it. Later we met up with a couple of college friends to watch Purdue beat Michigan at Michigan on their senior night, so that was awesome and we had a great time. Then we went out to dinner and spent the night at a great hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. On Sunday morning we took our time waking up and then went to the Heinz History Museum and learned all about the history of Pittsburgh. It was a pretty neat little museum and we had a good time walking around looking at all of the exhibits together. We then met up with our college friends again for lunch at Primanti Bros. for Andrew's favorite Pittsburgh style sandwiches. We drove home and put together our new IKEA chair and I settled in to watch the Oscars Red Carpet and Academy Awards, otherwise known as my favorite night of the year. It was a great weekend and we really enjoyed spending some quality time together.

Its crazy to think that our lives are going to be drastically and forever changed at any time when our little guy arrives. We are as ready as we can be (except for having the hospital bag packed and car seat installed, both of which will happen this week) and are getting really excited to actually meet Baby Fisher. We feel so blessed to have each other and to be welcoming a new member to our little family.

Being Crafty Until Baby Comes

I figure once Baby Fisher makes his arrival next month I won't have the time, energy, or creativeness to be crafty for awhile. I really enjoy coming up with ideas and making things for around the house, it also helps that usually doing things myself is a lot cheaper than buying things already finished. I definitely get frustrated at times, but I love the sense of accomplishment I get when I actually finish something I created. Most of the things I've done recently have been baby related (shocking), and I've been trying to use my sewing machine more too for practice.

Here are a few of my recent projects:

Burp Cloths for Baby Fisher made out of fabric and cloth diapers.

These burp cloths I made for my friend Kelly's and cousin Ryan's baby girls.

I made these "babylegs" for Baby Fisher for when he is crawling around to protect his knees. They will also make diaper changes easier since I won't have to remove pants, but will keep his legs warm. I bought a couple of pairs of knee socks at Target on Clearance, cut off the feet, and sewed a hem around the bottom. Basically they are baby leg warmers. :)

This is a mobile we have hanging in Baby Fisher's nursery. The theme of his room is Little Mister- so lots of mustaches, bowties, and hats. I sewed the bowties myself and bought the mustaches on Etsy. I painted embroidery hoops to match the room and tied everything together with fishing line. It was kind of a pain to make, but I love how it turned out.
